Chief Ron shares about COVID plans for the 2021 season.

February 17, 2021

Breaking News:  The Governor of New York State announced today that day and overnight summer camps in New York State can begin to plan for reopening. The Department of Health will issue specific reopening guidance, including details on timing, in the coming weeks.

This is big news because New York State did not allow overnight camps to operate in 2020. Deerfoot leaders in collaboration with other NY camp leaders have been advocating for re-opening in 2021. We’re thankful for the Governor’s statement and are actively preparing plans for camp.

Update on COVID Protocols –Camp protocols will most likely require the use of masks at times, testing before arrival (and possibly on-site), and cohort-based programming (keeping groups together for activities).  Though we recognize the inconveniences of these practices, we believe we can comply with best practices and carry out the mission at a high standard.

Camper Registration is open. Click here to learn when and how to register.

Staff Hiring is happening now. We’re looking for young men who are serious about faith, serving and growing.  Click here for more information about serving on staff.

Update on COVID Protocols –While we have no definitive information to report, it is clear from our meetings with experts and agencies that camp protocols will most likely require the use of masks at times, testing before arrival (and possibly on-site), and cohort-based programming (keeping groups together for activities). While we maintain our priority to carry out the mission to build godly men, we will comply with mandated protocols and practices. Though we don’t like program adjustments, we believe we can comply and carry out the mission at a high standard.

We’re working with the appropriate agencies and experts to open camp this summer. There is nothing definitive to report, but we have reason to expect we will be able to run camp responsibly even if the pandemic is still active. Please pray and we’ll keep you posted as information develops. Stay safe and do your part to limit the spread of COVID-19!

We’re working hard on plans to open camp in 2021. Camper registration for the 2021 season will begin on February 1, 2021. We’ve pushed the normal registration schedule back two months this year to plan session logistics that could impact the registration process.

October 2, 2020

We posted tentative 2021 session dates on the camp calendar. These are subject to change because we cannot predict how the COVID-19 pandemic may affect camp. We’re determined to run the camps in 2021, but session length and the program could require adjustments. We appreciate your understanding in these uncertain times and will post periodic updates. –Chief Ron

Disclosure of Risk

Even while programs will be limited this summer, we’re working hard toward the well-being of staff members and volunteers. We cannot, however, eliminate the risk of exposure to a virus. While camp is not open to general visitation, it’s important that all who are at Deerfoot this summer agree to the following assumption of risk.

  •   We have taken reasonable additional measures in an effort to reduce exposure to COVID-19 for all at Deerfoot Lodge.
  •   COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. An inherent risk* of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any place where people are present.
  •   While any person is at risk of potential exposure, senior citizens and guests with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
  • By coming to Deerfoot Lodge Adirondacks or Deerfoot Lodge Blue Ridge you are voluntarily assuming all risks related to exposure to COVID-19 and any other communicable disease.

*An inherent risk is a risk that cannot be eliminated.

MAY 4, 2020

This past weekend our Board of Directors made the painful decision to cancel the 2020 regular camp season because of the unprecedented health challenges presented by COVID-19. This decision was made through tears because we know many of you will be devastated.

We have no words to lessen the pain this brings. We know, however, that God can redeem even tough things to grow his people. So, we call on Deerfooters to look to Him and continue to grow as godly men.

We’re praying for the camp community and covet your prayers for us. Deerfoot will need your prayers and support going forward.

We’re working on ideas to help us connect this summer. Stay tuned to camp email updates and social media where we will announce plans as they develop.
